The whole matter started on June 19, when Jayaraj (59) and his son Bennicks (31) were picked up for questioning by the cops in Sathanakulam police for violating lockdown rules. The police said that the shopkeeper unofficially kept his mobile shop open even during the lockdown phase.
They were allegedly beaten very brutally till they survived their last breathe. Also, Fenix died at the Kovilpatti General Hospital on June 22, while father died later on 23 June.

In the support of cause, many celebrities including Khushbu, Jayam Ravi and director Kartik Subbaraj took to Twitter to demand for justice.
Actress-politician Kushbu Sundar took active participation in the cause and took this issue on her Twitter and wrote,”Will we and can we see law taking its course and punishing the guilty without any further delay in #Jeyraj and #Fenix case? The culprits cannot and should not get away. A family has lost their most loved ones. Justice delayed is justice denied.
